Trinity Supports Habitat for Humanity PDF Print E-mail

Trinity Church supports Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania a 501(c)(3) non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing in our county.

Their mission is to build simple, decent houses in partnership with people from all walks of life, regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, national or ethnic orientation or physical disability.

Habitat has been rehabilitating houses for people in need since 1989.  They have completed thirty-three homes in the past 17 years, sold them to families at no interest, no profit and housed over 125 people (more than 80 of them, children) in Montgomery County.  The average cost of a Habitat homeowner's mortgage falls around $600, which includes monthly principal, taxes and insurance.  The mortgage payments go into a revolving construction fund used to pay for the building of future Habitat homes.  They currently build 4 houses per year and are looking into opportunities to expand throughout the county.  They have finished three houses in Pottstown and continue working in Norristown, presently on East Moore Street.  It takes about 16 months for families to complete the program while houses are renovated, about $60,000 from donors and grants, and thousands of volunteer hours in construction and committee work.  Habitat raises money only within Montgomery County, attaining funding through individuals, congregations, corporations, businesses and private grants.

To function on a day-to-day basis, Habitat relies heavily on volunteers and other people with big hearts.  This is where Trinity's members help out.  We have spent volunteer hours helping in the construction of these homes.  What a blessing it is to do God's work in Montgomery County.
